Ideal for services of Lessons and Carols at Advent and Christmas, and for observances of the Annunciation, “The Promise (Gabriel’s Message to Mary)” is a paraphrase of the angel Gabriel’s words as recounted in Luke 1:28-35, in which he greets the Virgin Mary with the news that she will conceive Jesus, the incarnate Son of God, by the Holy Spirit.
The music for “The Promise” is an adaptation and arrangement of Jacob Arcadelt’s (1505-1568) “Nous voyons que les hommes,” which was adapted by Pierre-Louis Dietsch (1808-1865) in his 1842 setting of the traditional Latin prayer, “Ave Maria.”
This medium-easy work is available in two arrangements: for SAB voices and optional keyboard in Eb major — perfect for small choirs — and for SATB voices and optional keyboard in F major.
