Arise, O Lord

With verses from Psalm 132 (“A Song of Ascents”) and Psalm 28, “Arise, O Lord” has commemorated the Ascension of Our Lord (Ascension Day) in the church for centuries. Among those who set these verses are the Renaissance English composers William Byrd (c. 1540-1623), Thomas Tomkins (1572-1656), and Thomas Weelkes (c. 1576-1623).

This new setting for SAB voices is very singable by small and developing choirs, and is ideal for celebration of the Ascension or at any time in the church year.
