Dear Friends and Visitors to ConSpiritoMusic.com,
Recently, I completed a project to revisit some of my hymn tune settings for trombone and piano/organ — re-scoring them for trombone, strings, and woodwinds, recording the solos, and mixing and producing mp3s of each.
“Hymns Revisited” includes nine tracks, ranging from plainchant melodies to folk hymn tunes to composed hymns, with themes including seasonal celebrations (Thanksgiving/Harvest, Advent, Christmas) and “everyday” hymns.
This was a tremendous learning opportunity for me — to improve my skills in orchestration, to acquire some knowledge of recording equipment and techniques, and to discover how to offer the recordings on the website.
As it was a learning experience, it’s not perfect, and given the chance to do it again, I’d do some things differently, especially in the recording of the live trombone sound. (Since I don’t have an orchestra ready at my disposal, the accompaniments are realized with sampled instruments.) But I’m generally pleased with the result, and pleased to offer “Hymns Revisited” to you as a downloadable, zipped file. You may preview each of the nine tracks in their entirety using the players below (track titles appear beneath each player), and you may download the full album and add it to your music library — free — using the “Download” button at the bottom of the page.
If you enjoy the music, I would be delighted to hear from you at [email protected].
Soli Deo Honor et Gloria!
