“Faithfulness” is a medley of three beloved hymns on the topics of God’s faithfulness to his people and their faithful belief and life in Him.
It includes the tunes “Great is Thy Faithfulness” (FAITHFULNESS by William M. Runyan), “Faith of Our Fathers” (ST. CATHERINE by Henri Hemy/J.G. Walton), and “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” (OLIVET by Lowell Mason).
Following a brief quote from horn, trombone, and tuba as introduction, FAITHFULNESS is presented two times — the first with trumpet on melody, the second a duet by horn and trombone, with full ensemble on the refrain. After a short modulation, ST. CATHERINE is presented in alternation by trumpet and horn/trombone duet, with four brass on the refrain. Another modulation leads to ST. CATHERINE, presented first by horn, trombone, and tuba; then, after a key change, by four brass; and after a final triumphant modulation, by full ensemble. The introductory quote is repeated as a concluding coda.
Dedicated to Peace Lutheran Church, Hurst, Texas, in celebration of its 60th anniversary on August 11, 2019, this arrangement is ideal as a prelude to worship, as an offertory, or at communion. For a recording of “Faithfulness” from that service, click here.
